In the company's 89-year history, Volvo has never topped the half-million vehicles sold mark. That is, until 2015. Thanks to a boost from the all-new XC90 luxury SUV in the second half of the year, the company ended the year having delivered 503,127 vehicles.
All three key markets helped Volvo attain the milestone achievement. European sales, which accounted for 53.5 of the company's total global volume, were up 10.6 percent over the previous year. China, while flat versus 2014, ended the year up 11.4 in the fourth quarter, and sales in the United States rose 24.3 percent.
“I am delighted to report that 2015 was a year of record sales,” said Håkan Samuelsson, chief executive. “Now, with a successful 2015 behind us, Volvo is about to enter the second phase of its global transformation. Once completed, Volvo will have ceased being a minor automotive player and taken its position as a truly global premium car company. More records will tumble in coming years.”
