We all know where the automotive industry might be heading, and autonomous driving technology has been emerging all over the place over the last couple of years. We might be a ways off to completely self-driving vehicles, but Volvo is staying ahead of the game with its latest autopilot technology release. Volvo released a video about a year ago testing their autopilot technology. Here's the video they launched below!

Volvo is pushing ahead, and their goal is to have 100 autonomous vehicles on the road in Gothenburg by 2017 in the hands of real customers. As the Volvo R&D chief says "we are entering into unchartered territory...taking the exciting step to a public pilot, with the ambition to enable ordinary people to sit behind the wheel in normal traffic on public roads." Volvo's unprecedented commitment to ever-changing technology is admirable, and they are taking a big step in the field.

The autopilot is made possible by 360-degree sensors which produces a three-dimensional picture of the vehicle's whereabouts,  cameras for lane proximity, a camera that reads road signs, a multi-beam laser scanner that detects objects 500 feet in front of the vehicle, and much, much more. We can imagine how this will change the future here at Pederson Volvo, and we are as excited as you are!

In the meantime, however we cordially invite you down to Pederson Volvo to check out our extensive selection of used and new Volvo's, where we would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Give us a call at (877)800-9751, or contact us online. We look forward to hearing from you today!
