At Pedersen Volvo we are proud to announce that Volvo's concept car, the XC Coupe, won both the "Best Concept Car" and "Best use of Color, Graphics and Materials" awards at this year's Detroit Auto Show. Not only are these exciting trophies to put on the shelf, but the unveiling gives dealers and buyers an idea of the redesign path the Swedish automaker will be taking.
Through teaser videos and photos "leaked" prior to the auto show, we had an idea the XC Coupe was designed for people who love the outdoors, with its large tires and matching cargo box. Attached to the roof rack, the box's sleek design is reminiscent of the thin Apple mouse.
Pictured driving on winding hills dotted with trees and waterfalls, this car mixes bold features, like a prominent nose and grille, while still maintaining elegant curves which you don't always see with outdoor-inspired vehicles.
When it comes to color the designers went with a clean white look. They used pops of orange in the tire tread, under the front and back bumper, and in the rims. This design element is both unexpected and subtle, and we'd be curious to see how the orange incorporated onto the tires looks when flying around a bend.
While this concept car isn't slated for production, it's safe to say that we'll see pieces reflected in the Volvo CX90 which will be redesigned for the 2015 model year.
